ELDER JOHN NIGH

He was elected to the ministry in 1909 but was not ordained until 1913. He died Nov. 9, 1951.

(I got this information from Bishop Alvan Winger.) Elder John Nigh was a man conservative in his views, adhering to the standard of the church in his generation. He stood for simplicity in life and separation from the world in conduct and appearance. He was progressive in mission work, not sparing himself in work, time or money. The Houghton Mission field owes much to his untiring effort and self-sacrifice. He was a member of the Home Mission Board for many years. His interest in the school life of the church should be remembered. It started first at Springvale, then at Gormley and ended at Niagara Christian College. His family of four are all loyal members of the church. Two are ministers and one is a teacher in Niagara Christian College. His wife was closely associated with him in all his church activities, going with him in most of his services, which proved a great blessing to him. His evangelistic services throughout the church were much appreciated by the Canadian church and elsewhere.
