HISTORY OF SOME WHO LEAD IN THE TUNKER
CHURCH NOW KNOWN AS
BRETHREN IN CHRIST (TUNKER)
By GEORGE COBER of Gormly, Ont.
Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations, ask thy father and he will shew thee, thy elders and they will tell thee. Deuteronomy 32:7.
For the Lord thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks and water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills, a land of wheat and barley and honey, a land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness; thou shalt not lack anything in it. When thou hast eaten and art full then thou shalt bless the Lord thy God for the good land which he has given thee. Deuteronomy chapter 8.
Then said the Lord, stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths where is the good way, and walk therein and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, we will not walk therein. Jeremiah 6:16.
In memory of the pioneers of the church in Ontario.
Lord God of hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget, lest we forget.
I have tried to do my best to give the facts which is no easy matter as there ore so few that know. Thanking all those who have helped and hoping our rising generation can see what our fathers believed and how steadfast they stood for the faith.
Among those who contributed by help in the arrangement and collecting of this information mention should be made of Bishop Alvin Winger, Gormley; Andrew Sider, Bertie; Jonathan Baker's History of Vaughan; Ezra Eby's History of Waterloo Township; Asa Climenhaga's History of the Church; the Ontario Historical Society; the records handed down by my father and mother; Mary Baker of Concord for typing, and many others who in various ways contributed. My wife gave valuable help in arranging German verses.
